When I was nine years old, a weekly paper published an article I wrote about littering. That pivotal accomplishment boosted my ego - that is, sparked my love of writing.

It was natural for me, then, to fulfill a childhood dream by becoming a journalist for a small town newspaper after university. But I missed the love of my life - that's the guy pictured to the right - and soon moved back to Calgary. The gamble paid off because he asked me to marry him a few years later. (Phew!)

Over the years, I've worked in marketing, public relations and most recently, as a communications generalist. (That means I'm used to doing everything myself on time and on a tight budget!) I'm a well-rounded communicator with experience in graphic design, social media, web writing, PR, communications planning and media relations for both private and not-for-profit organizations.

Through it all, I've never lost my belief in the power of words - when coupled with compelling media - to persuade, inform and inspire.

I won't bore you with past dreams about climbing walls and swinging from buildings like my childhood idol Spiderman. But I will tell you a little about myself. I started my career path thinking I wanted to go into medicine, but realized it wasn't for me. I took a break from post-secondary and somehow ended up becoming a general manager at a fast food restaurant when I was only 19. (The most rewarding and stressful time of my life where I learned invaluable lessons about running a business). From there I made my way to SAIT where I was elected to student government while pursuing a marketing diploma.

After graduating I ended up working for a popular restaurant and bar in Calgary that found my unique blend of industry knowledge and marketing skills useful. (By day, that's where you can still find me). I've used my experience there to learn how to maximize marketing efforts in all areas of design, video, branding, social media and promotions.

What I've learned over the years is that the skills I use every day are ones that a lot of small businesses could use to help drive them forward. Couple that with my talented wife and voila! Vox Pop Media, our dream project, was born. I'm really excited to see how we can help you.
